„Entrepreneurs in the 21st Century - Opportunities and Challenges“ Alumni Summer School 29 May to 2 June 2018 at the TU Berlin

© TU Berlin/PR

Worldwide startups are playing a major role in the economic development of countries; so much so that today we are already seeing considerably more people working for small and medium-sized businesses than for large companies.  Startups create jobs, generate innovation and foster a competitive mindset. At the forefront of this process of opening up new areas of business is digitalization.
TU Berlin is committed to supporting new businesses, and its Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE) is one of the leading organizations of its type within German higher education. A notable feature of the CfE is the dovetailing of the practical support for new business ideas with research and teaching in the area of entrepreneurship. One of the most important elements in this process is the master's program Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (IMES), with its focus on the key future issues of entrepreneurship.

The Alumni Summer School is aimed at former TU Berlin students who have gone on to set up their own businesses as well as other alumni who are interested in both the themes to be addressed in the seminar and working together with German partners. In order to cover as wide a spectrum of countries/regions as possible and to enable an effective intercultural exchange, participants are sought from all regions.
The Alumni Summer School includes a reunion for graduates of the master's program in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (IMES), which focuses on the key future issues of entrepreneurship and numbers some 140 alumni, who are  either working in a variety of  companies around the world, engaged in research projects or have established their own business.

One of the goals of the seminar is to promote cross-border cooperation between on the one hand international alumni entrepreneurs, and on the other startups, alumni of the IMES program and partners from science, entrepreneurial support and other areas of business. A further goal is to promote an exchange concerning the differences between international markets and the general conditions for startups worldwide.

The central aim of the seminar is to examine the challenges entrepreneurs are faced with today. This question will be addressed by means of 1. An examination of best practice in the areas of entrepreneurship, support for entrepreneurship, and communication - marketing and social media for businesses and 2. A presentation / discussion of the differences in support for establishing life science and digital startups as well as the social, ecological and economic sustainability of business plans.
The seminar will be held in English.
